Going to see Colin Stetson tonight at the Walker Art Museum. It is FREE and should be amazing to see how he does it all with only a saxophone. More details here.
Bruce Peninsula “Say Yeah” from Open Flames
Arcade Fire and Neil Young perform “Helpless”
Quite weak this year…
Timber Timbre “Lonesome Hunter” from Creep On Creepin’ On
This album is pretty good! Slow melodies that have a slight haunting, yet rock and roll ballad feel to them.
None of you will know of The Breakmen. They are mostly from Vancouver, although one guy hails from the very same small little island I’m from (I’m also a friend of his family). They play new-grass/folk, and if you listen to any track, listen to “I Belong to that Band”.
Guest blog on Stereogum by Frog Eyes and Swan Lake band member, Carey Mercer about the gag order required by all artists performing at the Games to sign that prevents them from being critical of the event:
“The artist shall at all times refrain from making any negative or derogatory remarks respecting VANOC (the organizing committee), the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Olympic movement generally, Bell and/or other sponsors associated with VANOC.”
